TOURS IN 2020

Covid 19 has changed the way we live and has meant that Blue Badge Tourists Guides like me have not been able to work because there has been no-one around to take out on tours. We are still being very careful to avoid spreading the virus but people are beginning to go out now and we have all missed face to face contact with our guests. While the weather is still nice, I am offering a real-life walking tour of Hampstead for maximum 5 people.

ARTISTS HAMPSTEAD WALKING TOUR at 10 am on Saturday 17th and 24th October

Hampstead has a long association with artists and this walk will take us through the picturesque streets of the old village to get a feel for history of the area and to see where some of them lived. From the top of the town we will walk to where young artists could afford to live in the early C20th. We see where CRW Nevinson and Stanley Spencer painted and learn about Hampstead’s Bauhaus connections in the lead-up to WWII.

Practicalities :

Price £35 per person. Booking essential please Contact Me on this website or book on Eventbrite (please note  a booking fee is applicable on that site). I will wear a visor and will maintain a social distance of 2m from everyone in the group. The group will be maximum 5 people and I will ask each party of friends or family to keep 2m apart from others in our group.  With a small group like this it is totally possible to communicate with each-other and enjoy the walk. Please bring a facemask and hand sanitiser for your own use. The walk lasts for 2 hours and Hampstead is hilly so guests need to be reasonably fit. We finish near a pub, I have the contact details if you think you might want to have a drink or lunch there (the pub is busy on Saturdays).  Hampstead is lovely and I am sure you will want to spend some time after the walk looking at Hampstead’s shops and antiques emporium (we will see it on the walk). You might also like to take bus no. 268 or walk across Hampstead Heath to visit Kenwood House. The ground floor is open and there is a fantastic art collection there. Entrance is free but you must pre-book, here is the link https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/kenwood/prices-and-opening-times/. There is café here if you fancy tea and cake after your visit.

A WALK AROUND THE GHERKIN VIRTUAL TOUR at 18.00 London time (BST) on Thursday 24th September .

This visit is my idiosyncratic take on a tiny area of the City of London. I look at buildings and sculpture to tell stories.  We start in the middle of the skyscraper cluster of London, find out why these businesses are here and discover secret courtyards and old churches that are tucked here and there near the Gherkin. This tour is not a replica of a regular visit it is a live experience via Zoom so we can move through the area as it is now and use illustrations to be transported back and forth in history.

Price £8. To book Contact Me or to book on Eventbrite (no booking fee) highlight the link and click “Go to Eventbrite” https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-walk-around-the-gherkin-tickets-116099269039
